PACIFICA welcomes Congress woman to Manukau



Hon Aupito William Sio, Minister of Pacific Peoples joined PACIFICA members including MPs Louisa Wall and Anahila Kanongataá-Suisuiki in welcoming American Samoa Congress woman Aumua Amata Radewagen at a meeting held in Manukau.    In 2014 Aumua Amata became the first American Samoa woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives when she defeated the late Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin – an outstanding feat considering the many challenges she endured.   A real trailblazer!  More informationhere of her long list of achievements!

Aumua attended Mass on the Sunday at St Joseph’s Catholic church in Grey Lynn.  After the service the congregation performed an ava ceremony and presented a traditional gift to Aumua before serving a lavish feast.  Special acknowledgement of parish priest Fr Iosefo Timu and St Joseph’s congregation for their kind hospitality.  Fa’afetai tele le fa’aaloalo.  Thank you to Tagaloatele Prof Peggy Fairbairn-Dunlop for this awesome opportunity to meet with this incredible women.  Thank you also to National Executive, Manukau, Auckland Central and Tamaki for hosting and Lotu Fuli for organising  the venue.
